Marcel Rueter

Marcel Rüter is undoubtedly one of the most prominent people in extreme right in the Netherlands. The stranger so that no one has ever heard of him or has any idea how he looks. This has to do with the other side of Rüter. In addition to his political activities, he also has a successful social career, a rare combination.

Marcel (Johannes Petrus Marcel) Ruter wordt in 1963 born in a nest right VVD. It is therefore not surprising that as a young person is active in right-wing circles. However, he chooses a more extreme angle than his parents and gets early eighties involved in various Nazi youth organizations such as the Youth Front Netherlands (JFN, led by Stewart Mordaunt) and the National Youth Front (NJF, youth organization of the Dutch People's Union). In 1983 he writes (pseudonymous) an article in the 'JFN News'. In this section, dealing with reforms in South Africa, Rüter reveals himself as an outspoken racist: “First Minister P. W. Botha declared, we will never integrate. One has only to look around in South Africa to see the fallacy of this statement. The integration has already penetrated in restaurants, on beaches and in parks and now do even non-whites along in the Miss South-Africa beauty contest!”

Rüter also has contact with the widow of Rost Tonningen. He writes, again under a pseudonym, an article in its magazine 'Manuscripts'.

Displays the main features of Rüter mentioned: He likes to write and much, he is a racist and National Socialist and he is preferably in the background.

His political career is then divided roughly into three areas:

  • Active as radical pro-apartheid activist.
  • Active within the far-right party politics.
  • Active as disseminator of the New Right ideology.

Pro-Apartheid

Rüter brings mid-eighties a number of visits to South Africa, buttons contacts with extreme right-wing groups there and gets very involved in the apartheid system. He focuses in his hometown Enschede a South African Friends on. In 1985 He is the contact person for the Dutch South African Werkgemeenschap (NZAW) in the region of Overijssel.

Party politics

Around the same time Rüter first active for a political party, the Conservative People's Party (CVP) in the mei 1985 Founded. The CVP acts as a repository of fascists of all stripes. Rüter is a board member. In 1986 the party, a provisional list for the parliamentary elections together and put them Rüter, but ultimately does not participate in these elections. The party is in 1987 renamed the Kingdom Party in 1989 lifted. Of Ruter na 1986 yet has been active for the CVP is unknown.

His first real party political activity he starts 1992 when becoming a member of Dutch Block. This party was founded in August of that year and wants to unite the deeply divided right-wing parties. At that time, under the leadership of Philip the Vlaams Blok Winter namely attempts were made to reach a unity. Rüter see here or bread and visits in November 1992 a meeting of Dutch Block, despite the fact that the merger talks have been unsuccessful. Eventually he is in January 1994 treasurer of the party. When Wim Vreeswijk (expelled from the CD because of his involvement in the Block) power in the hands of party manages to get, Rüter leave in June the party again. In October there is an attempt to bring Dutch Block discredited by sending an invitation on behalf of the party for the celebration of the centenary of the birth of NSB leader Anton Mussert. Rumors are that Rüter was the man behind this action.

During his block-period Rüter (in October 1993) a member of the CP'86. He will be almost immediately committed to the circle of Arnhem and is editor of the local magazine 'Arnhem's Glory’ that from 1994 appears. He also takes care of the layout of this page. Noteworthy is that in the first issue of this magazine an article loop Douwe van der Bos state, while living in Friesland. Rüter and Van der Bos have long been close contact and are active in the same groups. Van der Bos was of recent Dutch block to CP'86 switched.

Making within the national party apparatus Rüter a meteoric career and knows to kick to pivot in the party organization of the CP'86. In 1995 he writes a "Proposed Reorganization Centre Party '86'. This is an interesting piece, since it determines the course of the party's history and career of Rüter. The CP'86 hangs up 1995 if somewhat disjointed. There was a national board, but the circles had a far-reaching independence. In some regions (including Rüters own region) this went smoothly, because there were enough active members. Other circuits were hardly off the ground. There was hardly a strategy and had the party in the election year 1994 in the eyes of Rüter achieved a much too limited success. In order here to change that does Rüter some in his plan proposals. He wants to organize the party tight and hierarchical, with a clear ideology and strategy. The ideology and strategy he wants to formulate a think tank within the party. The most important organizational change he wants a ring coordinator, who will supervise and control the individual circuits. Furthermore, should go much more actions waged by the party and party members are. A part of these actions should be aggressive, but may not be conducted under the party name. Rüter further calls for an amendment to the obscure and laden party name CP'86. Finally Rüter calls for training of the party framework and militants. In addition to these recommendations is the piece striking because it is imbued with Hitler-worship and are drawn on the assembly line parallels with the situation in Germany 1933, not to leave any doubt about which side Rüter at will.

The proposals of Rüter have some profound implications: The first consequence is that he himself as a district coordinator is appointed and efforts are going to do to give the individual circuits form. If circle coordinator Rüter is in the advantageous position that he is on the one hand one of the most powerful men in the CP'86, but outwardly hardly need to profile: he takes no public tasks, no board member and shall not be available as a candidate in elections. This is still a conscious choice as it might harm his business (Rüter is active in the textile industry) when he publicly as a right-wing extremist would be to book.

The second important result is that there is a think tank to work. In 1996 show that an internal think tank CP'86 also been active. Nobody has less than Marcel Rüter in collaboration with Party Secretary Tim Mudde written a new party. In this "Yellow Booklet’ the CP'86 takes the Third Way ideology about, which Rüter already pleaded in his reorganization plan. It will not surprise you that Rüter's been several years a member of the British organization "International Third Position ', who wants to spread this ideology worldwide.

The third important result is that 1995 en 1996 undoubtedly have been the most active years of the CP'86. Illegal demonstrations under the party name followed each other at breakneck speed on. In addition there are several actions took place as' Right Help’ and National Revolution’ conducted, not to discredit the party with controversial actions.

The fourth result is that the CP'86 now have to go through life as the National People's Party / CP'86, something which does not really taken off.

The last important result is that the training of the extreme right in the Netherlands form is given by (it's no surprise) Marcel Rueter. He focuses Study, Opbouw en Strijd (SOS) op. This organization will publish a newsletter and starts a service book. In addition, SOS framework organizes days. Through it hopes Rüter framework and activists CP'86 to bring any political and cultural awareness.

After a year of hard work, the tide is turning end 1996 tegen Rueter. After several attempts to reach a merger with the CD, this comes to nothing. Ruitenberg leave the party chairman CP'86 longer playing and all conflicts are increasingly to the fore. Rüter see this with sorrow and get in September 1996 as a circle coordinator and advisor to the board. Tim Mudde follows him temporarily as small group coordinator.

New Right

From that moment Rüter will devote himself to teaching Heel-Netherlands. Rüter has been around since the mid-eighties a prolific writer. Vanaf 1989 He also can be found in New Right corner. “New Right” is the name of a movement that originated in France in the seventies. The idea of the New Right is that the lack of success by far-right parties is often due to the lack of knowledge and ideology in the right-wing extremists themselves. Therefore, they can convey their ideas poorly on society, with all its consequences. A company must first be made ready an intellectual and cultural level for far-right ideas, before may have far-right parties success. In France, this theory has been successfully put into practice, what has been an important trailblazer for the electoral successes of the National Front.

In the Netherlands “The text, The comment was a Studies” one of the few magazines that are serious with this idea is busy. This magazine is distributed in the Netherlands by the former NVU'er Guus Looy. In this paper starts from Rüter 1990 to publish. Practically at the same time he is the Dutch correspondent of the New Right magazine “Nation Europa” from Germany. In this last leaf he writes, inter alia, an article about the “Nederlands Kroatische Werkgemeenschap”, who is busy Dutch volunteers to send to the Yugoslav civil war and an article on the twentieth anniversary of the NCE.

In this same year focuses Rüter 'Right Help’ op. This is an attempt to create a right-wing think tank, aka discussieclub, to form. The purpose of this club is “the study of the conservative revolution, nationalism and a genuine right attitude.”

Through its activities and the Dutch Block CP'86 these activities come to a standstill for several years, but in the reorganization-piece above is his New Right background clearly resurfaces. The Resulting SOS also connect seamlessly with this. SOS newsletter publishes on all kinds of ideological, cultural and historical issues. Furthermore, the SOS book service distributes a range of far-right, New Right and fascist literature. In addition, SOS publishes a number of thin brochures and a number of articles in magazines that try the Dutch right-wing extremist in some pages wiser to. Finally organizes SOS framework days, which participants are informed about all aspects of the life of the right-wing extremist.

Wanneer Ruter de CP'86 in september 1996 turns its back, he will focus entirely on the education of the extreme right and shall take over the Dutch branch of Outpost. Rüter was in the spring of 1984 Already a member of Outpost become associated with their pro-apartheid position. In 1989 he joined the Postal Operations Council for the Netherlands and publishes regularly in their magazine “Revolt”. He is Voorpost contact for East Netherlands, organizes meetings and acts as speaker. In 1996 He is a board member and as of autumn 1996 President. Also at Outpost in Belgium, he is a welcome guest and speaker (In Belgium, however, seems to have trouble with his un-Dutch name, and he is usually announced as Marcel Rutten).

For Mail Netherlands is an organization under his inspired leadership of the New Right tradition. SOS is placed under the care of Outpost as intellectual think tank and education body. In addition, from the Dutch outpost Student (NLSV) founded and under the care of the far-right student Michel Hubert and Jan Jimmy posted. This must NLSV engaging students in the nationalist ideology of Outpost, which as yet hardly seems to work.

Furthermore Outpost know some less stupid figures CP'86 circles to win. Met name Tim Mudde, the new action leader of Outpost, should be mentioned here. Anderen, as Henry Noordhoek, Mart Giesen and Robin Versteeg contribute to the SOS newsletter.

Or the plans of Marcel Rüter, to gain influence through actually outpost on the intellectual and political debate, is currently still difficult to say. On the one hand, the level of the writings of Rüter and other Outpost members questionable low. Yet they can not be denied a vision and they seem to have a lot of luck. From different angles (to think of people as Pim Fortuyn) to hear sounds, suis fit particularly well in the vein of Rüter cum.

What incidentally seems to happen is Rüters objective of Outpost create an organization for all right-wing extremists in the Netherlands. Thus, both the People's Nationalists Netherlands (VNN) as the Young Centre Democrats participated in a commemoration of William the Silent Outpost in Delft and is a prominent member of Outpost (Michael Bos from Arnhem) attended actions CP'86 / NCE and the VNN.
