Brigade M

The day before Christmas polite Leiden AFA action against Brigade M. Doel was de regionale band Brigade M, which exerts a space subsidized by the municipality. This evening the band had discussed the rehearsal room, but could not prevent a few dozen anti-fascists with a blockade that the band could enter the rehearsal room. Purporting, at the sight of the activists, The musicians chose direct their heels. The activists want the town prevents cause the tire can make further use of the rehearsal room.

Why was this necessary commotion, wat is er mis met Brigade M of te wel: what is it all about?

In the late eighties there was in the bulb a band with the name Opel Kadeath. This band was until the middle of the nineties. The question at the time were also active in the far-right circuit, including as a member and activist of the CP'86. One of the members of the first hour was the bassist

Tim Mudde, was still active at the JFN, later director of the CP'86, Action leader Voorpost Netherlands and consistently Nazi skinhead. After canceling the band began a few former members, including again Mudde, a new opportunity tape: Brigade M. In their own words, the band would have called originally Brigade Mussert, which sought to refer to the Mussert Brigade, “brave people, who fought in the streets against the army of the red bastards.” Because there was disagreement within the band over the name was shortened to Brigade M. The disagreement concerned, in particular the figure Mussert. Not all the band members were equally charmed by him: “Because Mussert is a controversial figure in nationalist circles; He married his aunt and was always against the NSDAP.” Also, it was found later that you can not measure the “Heroes” the Mussert Brigade.

Brigade M, there was a short period of time in 1996 en 1997 and released a track on the compilation CD “Welkom in Sassem”, which was produced by Mudde. Dit nummer was “Eigen Volk Eerst”, which in Dutch Nazi circles now has a legendary status, partly because of the delicate nature of the chorus meebrul.

Begin 2001 The band re-incorporate and start a very successful second life. The only member of the old class is Mudde. The band is completed by drummer Jasper Velzel and singer Dave Blom. Velzel then has since made his name with his distribution company “Berzerker Records” that all kinds of Nazi music and other junk scattered and as a regional outpost activist. Dave Blom's like Mudde a former member of the CP'86. Unlike Mudde he remains a member until the final demise of the party. The CP'86 is led by Martijn Freling, Stewart Mordaunt and Jan Teijn has long fallen into the Nazi fairway. Blom, however, was best known as a co-perpetrator of the destruction of a Jewish cemetery in The Hague end 1999, for which he was later sentenced to jail. He also spent some time singer Landstorm, another Dutch Nazi band.

With these three persons Brigade M has a core of permanent members. However, there still lacks a guitarist. An advertisement is being placed without much success in the Hardrock Journal Aardschok. A short time later ” Wickie”, another former member CP'86, attracted. It is almost certain that this is Jan Wiepjes. Wiepjes was late 90 -at the same time with Mudde- member of the Youth Front Netherlands (JFN). He makes like Mudde switched to the CP'86, when it is forbidden JFN. With Jan, the band is complete.

Eighteen months later (in september 2002) yet a second guitarist in the band recorded: apolitical hardrocker Stefan Verkooyen Breda should provide an extra “vet” sound. This is achieved, the current five-member cast.

Begin 2001 The band has a first appearance in The Barracks in Eindhoven. This former defense site is hacked two months earlier by a group of right-wing extremists in and around Eindhoven. Brigade M is almost the house band at The Barracks. During the two-year anniversary of the band, they give five performances.

In juli 2001 The band released a self-burned CD with five songs and a video of a gig at The Barracks. The lyrics of the songs give a reasonable picture of the ideas of the band. The CD opens with the old number “Eigen Volk Eerst”. Originally by the Vlaams Blok slogan was invented in the early nineties by the CP'86 used as Battlecry. Netherlands reports that the number is at the bottom of “Red ailments” as rassenvermenging, massacultuur, drugs en misdaad. Brigade M will rid the country of this by taking up arms against the powers that “people and homeland” threaten (1). The second track of the album, “His, cowardly and ugly”, about anti-fascists, which are dismissed as rancid and cowardly scum, which has no success against the “nazifront”. That wishful thinking is, shows when the band members sing another song: “the opponent controls our lives and give us few opportunities”. “Pedofielen”, the third issue, retrieves a classic of CP'86 and Outpost out of the closet. Not quite the connection to miss the rest of the population carried these organizations a popular theme at times on, suspected of there to a wider audience was maybe win something with it. But this time put her protest brigade M in top gear. Child Pornography and -verkrachting are not just a problem, but the fault of the left, which pedophiles have always been allowed to run amok. The penultimate song “For Folk and Fatherland” is about love for Dietse Empire and the struggle to be conducted before Dietsland “as a tribute to our vad'ren, The blood in our veins”. The latest issue “50.000 Heroes” put a few things then in historical context with a tribute to the Dutch Oostfronters who fought on the side of the Germans in World War II. “Young Liberators” en “Modern crusaders of the new order”, volgens Brigade M, assistance to the population shots “to liberate Europe”.

Briefly, the band ideology is a mix of popular nationalism (pursuit Dietsland), racism (fight for their own blood and against miscegenation), hatred left (and especially the anti-fascist movement), a touch of populism / opportunism with a clear reference to its ideological predecessors in the period 1940-1945 (not only in the text, but also in the name of the band). The lyrics of later songs are actually all paraphrases on these themes. The only number that further adds to the image of the tire is “Disgrace to our race”. In that song the band rages against former comrades from the CP'86, including Martijn Freling, who became addicted to hard drugs. Therewith (and also in other numbers) give members their revulsion against traitors, hangers, dropouts and others who do not do well in their increment the extreme right thing: “we won’t gain any support by drugtakers, wannabees and ignorant troublemakers.” Typical of this attitude is a recent concert of the band that you could visit only if you were also present at the political education meeting that went on beforehand. A final word about the ideas of Brigade M is about the anti-Semitic character of the band. This is rarely reflected in the texts (2), but regularly in interviews. First, it is often referred to ZOG, a popular acronym in Nazi circles that stands for Zionist Occupational Government. This abbreviation is referring to the supposed Zionist / Jewish world domination, which is seen as an occupying force and must be expelled. In the words of Brigade M: “let’s liberate Europe from the greedy hands of ZOG and it’s puppets in the governments.” In another interview with a Russian magazine the band asked for her opinion on a number of Dutch business, including Heineken beer. Brigade M: “Jodenpis, call so many nationalists in the Netherlands because of the owner, who died a year ago and belonged to the Jewish race.”

Within the far-right music circuit is increasing attention. The band performed several times in Belgium, then had a series of concerts in Germany (include a NPD demonstration in Rammstein) and acted recently for the first time in England and Poland (3). Further appear the band's songs on a compilation CD “White Music for White People” from the United States and on a collector from France.

What is striking is that the band did not initially bind to a particular group or structure. The last time the band puts himself increasingly in the Blood & Honour-netwerk. Blood & Honour was originally founded by the late singer of the English band Skrewdriver Nazi. The idea was to create a structure for the right-wing extremist skinhead music scene and this scene at the same time to further politicize. This initiative is to put it mildly never been a great success, because the vast majority of the supporters and interested end beer and loud music still found important than political organization. Furthermore, there were in the course of time to the network a lot of persons who, in particular, used to make (a lot) money to earn. The recent creation of two competing Blood & Honour organizations in Belgium and a dysfunctional branch in the Netherlands, however, has a slightly different slant. Even though the audience is still especially for party, music and alcohol, The organizers are a lot more serious with their political intentions. In any case sufficiently to meet the standards of Brigade M meet: twice was performed for the Belgian comrades, once a concert was organized by Blood & Honour from Flanders and the Netherlands together. The recent concert in England was under the wing of Blood & Honour place. This inspired the band in addition to the release of a jersey with the name of the band in the form of the logo of Blood & Honour.

The activities of Brigade M continued, predictably, not go unnoticed. When first started writing the regional press about the band. Simultaneously came the internet providers, which the band had put their data behind with whom they were dealing. They were not served here and threw the site of Brigade M on their servers off. The solution however was found quickly for the band and they released her pages under the American Nazi provider Odinsrage.com.

Anti-racism organizations also saw the work of the band with sorrow. After a performance in Belgium, the Flemish Centre for Equal Opportunities and Opposition to Racism a fuss about the lyrics and message of the band. The center had warned the police for concert, but to her great dissatisfaction no action was taken. Brigade M is doing about this action giggly, just as on any further negative attention that obtains the band. The center is thanks for the free publicity.

This tone changed when there is commotion in Leiden on the use of the subsidized rehearsal space by Brigade M. After attention in the local press propose CDA, Christian Union, Green Left, PvdA, SP and the local party Leiden Weather Sociable / Greens written questions to the College of B&W on the possibilities Brigade M to deny access to the rehearsal room. At various places evoke members and supporters of Brigade M to take action against this initiative. In Leiden are painted slogans and a vote organized on the Internet is manipulated by the local paper, waardoor 90% of voters behind Brigade M seems to be. Incidentally, leads the initiative of the council in the first instance nothing. However, the councilor believes that he can act tough, because Brigade M in the training center no music propagates, but practice just so no one else can hear. The alderman announces an investigation into whether there are any “hate behavior” door Brigade M. Following this research is to see the alderman what steps he can take. It is now clear that there is likely to draft a new house rules by the training center, making it impossible for Brigade M and similar bands to rent a room. With the action in Leiden pressure was put behind taking this decision.

Noten:

1 – Another issue of Brigade M “We are Elite” allows for that matter too much to the imagination: “We are the elite, Death to parasites; advocates of multiculturalism end up against the wall”.

2 – However Brigade calls M in number ” no Tivall in my Tefal” for a boycott of Israeli products, but this is done according to the number of solidarity with the Palestinians.

3 – This performance in Poland, moreover, yielded a remarkable debate between right-wing extremists on the Internet. Indeed, the Poles were not inferior Slavic people and you can go there with decency as Aryan band do occur: “The poles are a Slavic people, on the ethnic Germans after who still live there. Not a problem, but they are not brotherly people of the Nordic peoples. For me they are one step lower on the ladder of the races. If Brigade M played there for a pool multilingual audience, up to them, but I thought they explained more wisdom.” en “what concerns Brigade M, is obsolete to me. Then they can play just as well in central Africa. If they do not even tell the difference between slaves and Nordics.”
