Constant Kusters, an overview

In their own words Constant Kusters was 1989 active within the extreme right. Around this time, he celebrated so its twentieth anniversary. There are still some Dutch right-wing extremists who sustained two decades, but many are not there. While many right-wing extremists after a shorter or longer time drop off because the infighting, the gossip and internal settlements, Constant Kusters just his trademark seems to have made.

kusters01Constantine Adrianus Bastiaan Kusters (1970) grew up in Arnhem and surroundings. Kusters' interest in extreme right anywhere originated in the mid-eighties. Where exactly this interest came from or inspired by was not very clear. Years later, he told him how in a television interview had seen his youth from the Arnhem change by the growing number of immigrants. That would have been reason for him to be active within the extreme right.
But it is also plausible that there are other causes, to underlie. Young people who get involved in extreme right-wing organizations do so because rarely ideological reasons, but more often because of personal circumstances. And the circumstances in which the young Kusters was in that period, gave ample space to explain such a step.
In the second half of the eighties witnessed the growing Constant namely a turbulent period in his life. He lived in a family with a sister and a divorced mother. For the separation had violence between his parents considerable impression on him. But he himself was not exactly the easiest. Both at school and at home he was not manageable. He was aggressive and violent, destroyed his mother's home and abused his family. Also, automotive training, he had to break off because of possible behavior and threatening classmates. Eventually he was in the late eighties – net of age – several months involuntarily admitted to a psychiatric facility. In this period he became a member of Janmaat's Centre Democrats (CD). And thus began his political career.

That first step in the political landscape was however not successful. Kusters same year joined with some other young CD-members in the region (including Michael Forest) on the extreme CP'86. Begin 1991 Kusters and Michiel Bos then took the initiative to set up their own CP'86 department Arnhem. Their goal was to get an active circle of land that could participate successfully in municipal elections in 1993 (according to letter Kusters ed.). These ambitious plans showed immediately a remarkable side of Kusters. He sent, when he had just become active, a note to CP'86 board member Wim Beaux. In it he wrote that he wanted to remain active only for the CP'86 if he would be party leader at the next council elections. This kind of thin air based baasspelerij will Kusters' behavior during the rest of his political career remain Features.

Back to the CD

Apparently the CP'86 has agreed with its strange proposal, because the circle Arnhem was then constructed by Kusters and his friends and was in many ways one of the most active circles of the party. The role of Kusters thereto was important. He was secretary circle and very active for the party. But at the same time put the previously outlined problems continues. Kusters namely continued to behave like a total antisocial. Such that he 1993 his home had to leave because of extreme nuisance (noise disturbance, demolitions, threats and violence against neighbors, beer throw in mailboxes). Furthermore, Kusters was regularly involved in violence and abuse, which earned him a series of convictions. For example, if he hit someone in the face, which objected to a directory of CP'86 in his mailbox. Another striking incident occurred in 1993 plaats. Police found in the home of Kusters two pistols and ammunition, hidden in a vacuum cleaner. Also this gives him a conviction.

This remarkable behavior earned him strangely no problems within the party. However, these problems occurred well after the long-awaited elections in 1994. Kusters was indeed the leader for the CP'86 in Arnhem. Despite major electoral successes for both the CD and the CP'86 in dozens of municipalities, won the CP'86 in Arnhem no seat.

Kusters could be disappointment but hardly stomach and had to severely adjust his ambition. That proved less complicated than thought. Indeed the elected party leader for CD, Henny Selhorst, looked for a fraction assistant. Kusters for the choice was easy, and he switched to the CD to accept this job, to the anger of his former comrades CP'86. The anger over this betrayal was exacerbated by the persistent rumor that Selhorst was a drug dealer. Kusters was for that reason by return suspended by the CP'86.
Cooperation with Selhorst buttered however, and Selhorst was also arrested with a packet of drugs in his possession. Kusters the CD then left again to get them politically homeless. Attempts to return the failed CP'86.

Through JFN'94 to FAP to NCE

In the subsequent period Kusters then founded two clubs on: The Netherlands Youth Front '94 (JFN'94, a reference to the neo-Nazi organization raised JFN) Fundamentalist and Labour Party (FAP, a reference to the banned German Freiheit Licher Arbeiter Partei). Both clubs would not have been worth mentioning if it were not the vehicle for two new developments. Kusters tried with these organizations to attract the attention of a group of active neo-Nazis in the Netherlands. Which were partly in the CP'86 (grouped around the Rotterdam councilor Martijn Freling) and partly in the Action Front National Socialists (ANS) onder leiding van Eite Homan. Additionally Kusters ogled also to German neo-Nazis to organize and support his political activities.

Both initiatives succeeded to some extent. Kusters knew himself from this period are assured of interest and support from the neo-circuit in the Netherlands and a very active group of neo-Nazis in North Rhine-Westphalia. In collaboration with these groups Kusters organized in the following years a series of actions and demonstrations.
Initially, he did so under the banner of the two aforementioned clubs. Maar in 1996 Kusters and Eite Homan got to the just retired JOOP GLIMMERVEEN. Glimmerveen was comatose leader of the Dutch People's Union (NVU). Kusters Homan and asked him if that party does not live again could be blown in and Glimmerveen consented. The NCE was in the last years of the century, especially manifest in a series of illegal demonstrations. There were some meetings that especially stood out by death threats, glorification of terrorism and other militant statements. And finally, of course, quite a number of violent incidents and associated arrests and trials. The NCE meanwhile grew slowly, especially after violent quarrels within the competitive CP'86, that tore and was banned.

The old friends of Constant Kusters

Constant Kusters hangs around a group of extreme right-wing activists who are about as long as shadowing Kusters itself.
The main one is Michael Forest. Forest went through the same career as Kusters. Kusters and he built along the very active circle of Arnhem at the CP'86. Then there was after Kusters' momentary switch to the CD while talk of discord. But after a while Bos joined Kusters' NCE. Bos is currently the NCE Ombudsman ', staff photographer and "workgroup anti-antifa" of the NCE.

Another good friend of Kusters has spent years Louis Faber. Kusters and he know each other from primary school. Faber also was active in the Arnhem circuit CP'86, including as Treasurer. Faber came further into focus as a supplier of a pistol which Kusters was arrested and convicted. Later Faber plunged again at the NCE. Lately, however, he is no longer visible active.
A third "old comrade" of Kusters Chris Beumer. Also dating from the CP'86-circle Kusters and Forest and in recent years been active within the NCE.

Freedom and punishment

In the new millennium, things changed a thing. To begin with, followed Constant Kusters 2000 JOOP GLIMMERVEEN as Chair of the NCE. Initially seemed to pose no problems. Maar in 2001 Kusters changed the political course of the NCE. The immediate cause was previously a demonstration which wanted to keep the party together with German neo-Nazi groups. The intention was to demonstrate in border town of Kerkrade and there to stabbing the Dutch-German border. That plan led both Germany and the Netherlands to ban. In Germany, neo-Nazis than for some time used to have such a ban by the right buttons. In the Netherlands, Janmaat tried that a few times, but no result it managed to book. Kusters tried it again, possibly inspired by his German colleagues. And he succeeded: The administrative court of Maastricht decided there was no reason for a ban on demonstrations. This was the first in a series of procedures at various courts, Kusters which ensured that the constitutional freedom to demonstrate for his party was guaranteed. Moreover, he also managed over time to time constraints (obliged to demonstrate in the early morning) and insert (demonstrate required in secluded grounds) from table to get. This novelty was a revolution for freedom of expression of the extreme right in the Netherlands and Kusters saw this revolution as a personal victory.

At the same time he was confronted with significantly worse news. The series of violent incidents in the nineties had given him so many convictions. He had often been challenged at the Supreme Court, but now, most recent procedures and Kusters was imprisoned for six months. He volunteered obediently, so he could sit out the punishment under relatively mild regime. Nevertheless, this period was his very heavy. There he took lessons in this sense, that he was from that moment on was trying to watch again to jail to be sentenced.
Both developments (fought for the freedom to demonstrate for NCE and jail time) resulted in an adjustment of the political course of the NCE. Henceforth Kusters of the party had to stay within the rules of the criminal law. Demonstrations should be applied properly, violent actions were not tolerated and should be respected the rules prohibiting discrimination. Kusters called this the 'consensus price'.
However, not everyone was happy with this little brave and revolutionary plans. To begin stepped JOOP GLIMMERVEEN from the party. But the neo-Nazi supporters would have none of this, protested loud and partially left the party.
Kusters was obliged to do some water in the wine, without his new course and to put themselves in danger. He did so to appease the radicals interesting demonstration themes. Not something braafs as "Freedom of Speech, also for Nationalists ", but the themes which the neo-Nazis, albeit in veiled terms, could express their anti-Semitic message: "Solidarity with Iran" for example.
This 'consensus price plus' the party has since delivered a reasonable stability. Kusters creates some legal demonstrations per year, where his supporters and the radical neo-Nazi groups could find themselves in. Not both the party and the demonstrations grow or shrink in size remarkably, Kusters remains outside the prison and should by now almost 8 year term party chairman.

Ideology

Which he owes to the position as party chairman has meanwhile a big question. You would expect that someone who leads a political organization with a clear political orientation. Especially when it's so someone fails to rally a host of Nazi extremists behind.
Nothing seems less true. Kusters When asked about his political views, he says "private national socialist" to its. Obviously - but undeserved – in the belief that if he would call himself just national socialist, he would get in trouble.
Where his national-socialist persuasion consists of, remains very vague. He idolizes Hitler and the Third Reich. But a translation to 2008 the ideas of Hitler, eg Eite Homan and Michael Krick trying to make, you will not find at Kusters. Indeed, he drifts off and talk to others, especially the mouth.
A good example of Kusters nonexistent political ideology has been dealing with issues such as Islamophobia and anti-Semitism versus the success of Geert Wilders. That gives occasionally as ludicrous as embarrassing situations on.
The radical neo-Nazis and to see the NCE, Briefly, Jews as the great evil in the world. They therefore support radical Muslims in their struggle against Israel. Wilders contrast they see as a Jewish servant, for his support of Israel and in favor of a Judeo-Christian tradition in Netherlands.
Kusters imitates these ideas and Wilders condemns therefore regularly like 'islambasher'. Meanwhile, the NCE performs under his leadership actions against mosques and increasing Islamisation of the Netherlands. He also declared himself in 2004 more solidarity with the anti-Semitic ideas of Van Gogh murderer Bouyeri. Remarkably enough – but maybe not – Kusters told on the Stormfront forum that he had voted in the last parliamentary elections on Wilders. A few months earlier he had Wilders at the same forum a "Jewish friend" and "Zionist" called.

This drifting course Kusters spent a few years ago even in big trouble. He worked on a television portrait of himself, by Catherine Keyl. During the shooting Keyl indicated to be of Jewish descent. Nevertheless Kusters took her to a German Nazi demonstration, to let her shoot herself and went very amicably there with her. Few neo-Nazis could see the funny side of it, a Jewess on their demonstration. According Glimmerveen delivered to him a last warning from his German Allies.

Quarrels and scandals

That Kusters his leadership may not owes its political vision are apparent in the light of this example. The question of what helps him to that position is therefore not yet answered. Any organizational talent he must have it. After all, he organizes 4 a 5 demonstrations per year and occasionally a party meeting. But given the time he has previously (Kusters lived until recently years on welfare) it would be clever if he would get together.
What seems more likely is that he works himself up especially know through a nothing game of indulging attract and repel people he think you need or think you may miss. We have already described how his example, by a concession in the area of demonstration themes the Radical Party held inboard wing. A more telling, however, are the statements of Kusters.
With some regularity trying Kusters him unwelcome activists from the extreme right-wing landscape turning a lurking. He does this in several ways. One known way is the leaking of sensitive information to the press or political opponents. An example of this is Ronald van der Wal. Van der Wal has for years been active within the extreme right and was with Kusters member of the CP'86. However buttered not between the two Kusters and then sent a note with information and a picture to Kafka, hoping in this way Van der Wal put a heel (See illustration). However, in recent years chosen Kusters overt confrontation, by putting pieces of his opponents on the Internet. Some time ago Kusters made an attempt to end a very long drawn-out conflict with Tim Mudde. Mudde was not here, then Kusters published an abusive article about a number of enemies in the movement. It published numerous details involved. Mudde was discussed ('Biggest rat of radical right Netherlands'). But Van der Wal and – oddly enough – NVU-lid Patrick de Bruinemphasis of the piece. Another example is an extremely long slanging piece JOOP GLIMMERVEEN on the website of the NCE.
Another major quarrel took place between Kusters and Virginia Kapic. Kusters and Kapic had a brief relationship, but that soon resulted in discord. Kusters leaked them information about Kapic. Kapic it appeared at least as bone and underhanded and threw all kinds of information about Kusters Internet. That battle then continued for some time continued and even became a battle between the NCE and the new batch of Kapic, the National Alliance.
A final example is a remarkable action in an extreme right concert. The proceeds of the concert would benefit Voorpost, an organization that Kusters not really appreciates. A present NVU member was caught stealing liquor coins, which they then sold on behalf of her own purse. Kusters then spoke openly appreciation for this action.

Naturally such actions make him unpopular with his victims. But this way he can be rid of troublesome critics. Simultaneously, he also lets brands in this way what can happen to you if you Kusters against your will: then get lots of information on opponents or on the Internet visit.

The supporters of Kusters and the NCE continues in this way, of course, limited. But the first priority for Kusters, The party leadership, is in any case unthreatened. Glimmerveen expressed that once as "There is a difference between giving guidance and lording. Constant plays the boss. "But Kusters himself wrote it in 1991 actually already also in the letter to Wim Beaux: "The undersigned wishes you already know at this stage to give too little feel for the red carpet to explain to someone else."
