Op 2 november 2004 Theo van Gogh was murdered. The perpetrator shot Van Gogh, stabbed him several times with a knife and left a threatening letter skewered to his chest. On the run, he shot at police, which gave chase. Finally the perpetrator was shot in the leg and he could be arrested. In the first two weeks after the murder it became clear that it was not in the case of the killer acting alone, but that there was a network of radical Muslims, where a considerable and concrete threat of terror.
