European Elections 2009

The political landscape in the Netherlands has changed in recent years. Because the positions of many parties are shifted to the right, it is difficult to determine a boundary between just right and the extreme right. In addition, after the assassination of Pim Fortuyn additional laden become to label movements in the border area with the predicate “extreemrechts”. These mechanisms are clearly visible in the Freedom Party. If such nonconformist party had operated in the nineties, was no one on the stamp “extreemrechts” cases. Today it is a lot harder.

Critics are afraid of being accused of demonizing. Nevertheless, the positions of the PVV see a very right-wing law-and-order party. Not only her crusade against religion especially by foreigners confessed is an example of this, but also for instance the call for a temporary halt to immigration, a substantial increase in prison or the removal of certain civil rights of non-Dutch. The parliamentary group of the party set itself uncompromising on. One looks barely cooperation with other parties and performs a provocative opposition. As a result, the term “radically” justifiable. En and radically in the context of parliamentary democracy. There is no other party in parliament asset that positions itself as radical and right as the PVV. And taken into account that significant parts of the political landscape in the Netherlands have been shifted to the right, (as the Labour Party now says things she would have convicted ten years ago as a right-wing claptrap) we think it is arguable that the PVV is portrayed as a far-right party.

In this election study we have looked at the composition of the PVV candidates. We also looked at which parties influence exerted by right-wing extremists. This led us to several lists on which candidates are active (been) in the extreme right-wing politics. We see people with a past with extreme right-wing organizations such as the Centre Democrats and pro-apartheid club. We see former LPF'ers and conservatives in the Flemish Nationalist Students (SSR) spoke. A man who threatened lawyer Gerard Spong saw deleted his candidacy for technical reasons.

Or also classic right-wing extremists roam the PVV is hard to see. The party is not transparent. The private gatherings of supporters are shielded by a strong security apparatus of the police. Email error of the PVV in February highlighted a glimpse op, but no more than that. There were some extreme right-wing figures on the invitation list of PVV meeting, but it is unclear whether these are also allowed.

In this European election participation diving no known right extremists. Of party leader Barry Madlener in January 2005 claimed that he would travel to a meeting of the Vlaams Belang in Antwerp, but Madlener denies this and further evidence is lacking. Candidate number five Lucas Hartong is to say he is a columnist on the extreme right-wing website “The Free People”.

Two other tables in this European contest is much more to say.

European Whistleblowers Party (ECB)

The European Party Whistleblowers (ECB) is a small party with its base in Friesland. It is the European adventure of the few successful Dutch Whistleblowers Party. The initiative for this party comes from the former Leeuwardse department of the Pim Fortuyn List (LPF). The EKP writes on her site to continue the ideas of Pim Fortuyn. In her election is not so find a lot of back. No controversial views on Islam, immigration or integration. Safety one writes some generalities. The EKP wants to tackle fraud and corruption in the European administrative culture. If the “costly bureaucracy” to address should be a quarter of officials are dismissed. After that, the tax can down.
This position is in stark contrast with the behavior of EKP party leader Yuri Wiersma. The municipality of Leeuwarden beginning 2009 additional staff to pull in to answer his bombardment of information requests according to the law. The cost would the round 100.000 euro lie.
The party is on for more transparency and will cut into the forest of European rules.
How the election in practice will look like we will probably never know. The probability that the party enjoys the threshold is not so great. More than one-third of the people who are involved in the election participation of the EKP has a well-known to us at the past LPF. Seven of the ten candidates was ever involved in the LPF. The game also makes itself no secret that it has its roots in the LPF. Op 6 May 2009 do the party leaders of the EKP (that is to say; the first three candidates) also participated in the ritual Pim Fortuyn commemorations organized annually by groups of fanatical followers. These three men are Yuri Wiersma (1976) Leeuwarden one, Angel Lady (1946) from the Frisian Warga two and Harm Wiersma (1953) from Goutum (Also Friesland) in the third place of the EKP-list.
Yuri Wiersma is the son of Harm Wiersma, the former damkampioen in 2002 more than half a year MP for the LPF. Son Yuri is personal assistant to his dad.
Candidate number two, Angel Lady, compares himself like Pim Fortuyn. On the Whistleblower Party website he lists all kinds of alleged agreements. A bald head and a suit must finish the story. Lady in 2002 also member of Harm Wiersma in parliament. Until the last election 2006 Angel Lady has been a candidate for the LPF.

In the same election 2006 Henk is Schattenberg (1951) from Barneveld candidate for the competitor of the LPF, Party for the Netherlands Hilbrand Nawijn. In the years before that Schattenberg three years with the LPF. Earlier we wrote that in Schattenberg 1995 the extreme right-wing Centre Democrats (CD) Hans Janmaat supported in elections. It obviously does not prevent to give him a fourth place on the EKP list.

Two men were initially interesting candidate for the European Party Whistleblowers, but for technical reasons were deleted by the Electoral Council. They both have failed to sign a statement that they accept their candidacy and moreover forgot to submit a copy of their identity. The party has so they do not withdrawn. They are equally interesting for the image of the party that we outline here.
On the ninth place of the list of candidates of the ECCP was initially Henk Daalhuizen (1939) uit Rotterdam. Vanaf 2002 He is active in many areas within the LPF and Liveable Rotterdam.
Rossum Hans's also (1965) The Hague was canceled for technical reasons, as EKP candidate. In februari 2009 he suddenly takes the national news because he Gerard Spong blackmails a threatening e-mail. Van Rossum is angry because Spong has sued Geert Wilders and the court takes the case is pending. Van Rossum is a community of sixty hours for his action.

Libertas

The new party Libertas does in several European countries competing in this election. Libertas is doing in Poland uproar when it appears that people from the far-right League of Polish Families and the anti-Semitic radio station Radio Maryja, places have been on the list of candidates for these European elections. Whether it is exemplary for the lists in all other countries where the eurosceptic party participates is unknown. However, standing in the right-wing Catholic France Phillipe de Villiers candidate. He speaks out strongly against Islam in France.
Libertas was founded last year by Irish millionaire Declan Ganley (1968) and achieves hear a voice against the undemocratic nature of the European decision-making. They want to undress the European Union again so that it is smaller and cheaper.

In the Netherlands, the party with a list of 24 candidates with the 28-year Eline van den Broek from The Hague list star trek. Of hair are known in 2005 board member was of The European Independent Institute. This is a foundation that was created from the conservative Edmund Burke Foundation. The big man of the Burke Foundation, Bart-Jan Branch, was initially active in the Party for Freedom, but dropped out of dissatisfaction with the direction of Geert Wilders. Eline van den Broek calls himself a “minimal state libertariër”. Someone so the role of the government wants to reduce and more free capitalist market. The same applies to Libertas candidate Sander Boon (1971) Amsterdam. He was also at the Burke Foundation and the said foundation assets and is a staunch libertarian. He is involved in the libertarian Frédéric Bastiat Foundation and the Libertarian Party. Bean saw 2005 no impediment to carrying out his views in a debate in Antwerp of the extreme right-wing students of the Nationalist Students (SSR).
Furthermore, the Libertas party seems a mish-mash of people from diverse backgrounds. There are between socialists and students and also people who want more transparency in Europe. Further plunges a former chairman of the LPF, Henrick Fabius (1950) as supporting handtekeningzetter.
Amsterdam bus driver Johan Brondijk (1952) was in 2003 involved in the electoral participation of the extreme right party Conservatieven.nl Winny de Jong and Michiel Smit and is now a candidate for Libertas.

Two more candidates are worth mentioning:
The first is Hans Besseling (1928) Delft, a retired aeronautical engineer. He pulls in February 2009 attention because his email address on the invitation list for a meeting of the Party for Freedom stands. It is unclear whether he has gone. However, he regularly writes opinion pieces on the far-right website of The Free People. Besseling is in 2002 President-in LPF, but is not elected. Then he shows up at various offshoots of the LPF.

On the eleventh place of the strike we Libertaslijst Johann Grünbauer (1946) from Wilnis to. He sells a book against climate- and environmental, written by Czech President Vaclav Klaus. President Klaus Libertas has already publicly supported. Grünbauer was in the eighties and nineties, Treasurer of the libertarian Critical Dutch (Independent later) Entrepreneurs. A right club that was often at loggerheads with unions and works councils. Additionally Grünbauer held in the eighties various positions at the pro-apartheid club “No Money for Church Violence (GKVG)”. Having started as an action of the Veterans Legion (OSL) against the support of church organizations to the ANC. GKVG even got money from the secret service of South Africa. Johann Grünbauer nowadays adviser GKVG, that in her writings still turns against leftist ecclesial movements.
