Posts and the Provocation

The strategy Outpost follows in its attempt to become a serious force in the political field in the Netherlands highlights the past two years enough by us in this Newsletter, in de Alert! and on the Internet: broadening through intellectualization, ideology and contacts with like-minded.
Since this spring, however, the organization seems to increasingly focus on its leftist opponents. This is especially attempts to provoke radical leftist groups or sow them confusion. We want to give a brief overview of this article for what Post 1999 activities in this area has developed a comprehensive assessment and why it does it.

Sinds 1996 Outpost has been taken over by the tandem Rüter-Mudde the organization is increasingly characterized as the New Right.

Marcel Rueter

But an important part of the New Right theory, taking on successful strategies and ideas of her leftist political opponents, let outpost until recently to pass them by. They mainly relied on an extreme variant of nationalism, in particular was warned foreign forces that would threaten our culture: of Islam in the veramerikanisering. Over “linkse” items was well spoken, but especially within the organization itself. Only at Outpost affiliated Dutch Student Association conducted last year action against the European Elections and tried under the pseudonym “Ladle” to cause confusion within leftist ranks.

In februari 1999 a delegation of the Voorpost research department “Study, Opbouw en Strijd” (SOS) in Paris a GRECE conference (#1), whose theme was the New Right of the strategy at European level. In a press release SOS know that after this conference “proposals and recommendations at the national level to its employees will be submitted so as to reach an energetic and decisive action.” At this conference, Marcel Rüter seems to have gained his inspiration for a new tactic.

Ocalan

A week after this meeting on behalf of SOS brings Rüter a press release in which he stands up for the Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan, on the run from the Turkish Justice and secret service. Up to that point had only leftist and Kurdish organizations created pressure on the position of Ocalan. Rüter demands political asylum for Öcalan in Netherlands, so it from here “yet another Holocaust (can) to prevent“. Moreover Rüter wants self-determination for the Kurds on the agenda of the international community will be placed. He signs the press release “Friends Kurdistan“. This Rüter jumps for the first time on a typical left theme.
When Ocalan kidnapped is put in prison by the Turkish secret service in Turkey and this leads to the necessary turmoil. For example, in the Netherlands a stocking / hostage- performed by Kurds in The Hague. About all we hear Rüter and his followers, however, not.

In March SOS organizes a meeting under the theme “Culture, Peoples and Identity“, where Rüter and Luc Pauwels (#2) speeches and discussion afterwards. During this meeting, says Rüter include the future wanting to provoke debate with the media. Also this seems Rüter leftist themes find out.

Kosovo

In April, the Kosovo war is raging in full force and debating Rüter and his also about what position should be taken there. Rüter sends texts by Laurent Ozon (#3) and Luc Pauwels via email to all kinds of leftist organizations and individuals. Ozon's text focuses harsh words against the “US war in Europe” and uses exactly the same arguments as can be found back in leftist anti-war documents: there is no serious attempt to resolve the conflict diplomatically, it is a war in Europe about US interests, Milosevic is strengthened in his position and the opposition is increasingly less space, innocent civilians are the main victims of war etc.. etc.
Luc Pauwels by contrast, strongly supports the people nationalistic aspirations of the Kosovars. He turns against the opponents of the war and calls them communists and pacifists. Although he also declares NATO opponent and American imperialism, but considers the interests of the people of Kosovo outweigh. Anti- oorlogspropagandisten he sees as allies (“de communist”) Milosevic.
See broadly as a copy of the discussion within the left.

In Alfred Vierling Netherlands takes itself explicitly opposed the war. Vierling is, though he held no official position, a prominent member of the New Right discussion- circus. In April, he sends an email to the Leiden group “The Fable of the Illegal” (Misspellings Quad):

even all peace movements are now throwing bombs on innocent civilians in Belgrade. in 1979 demonstrrerden 500.000 people against deployment of cruise missiles and are now to shout them. Do you understand I understand it. I do know that the uck is a CIA org; as the us also have the ESCOM observers in Iraq opgezte according heyt book their head Ritter. Even then, the US bombed the no-fly zone without UN SC mandate, and now Europe is completely pushed down the throats, that NATO am a police force is. soon the tchechenen the pathetic minority and can the Americans under the guise of humanitarian intervention is bombarding way to the oil jars Azerbaijani and kazakstan. Hitler was not started saving with pathetic minority in Sudetenland, his goal was not the Caucasus ? All been seen before, but sleeps Netherlands, no one goes to the streets against the bombing, julie although not, lack of transparency may ? I now live in a so fascisitisch war delightful land, wie is de fascist here ?

In June should Quad at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague a complaint against Prime Minister Wim Cook, Foreign Minister Jozias van Aertsen and Defence Minister Frank de Grave. He wants them to answer for their support to NATO operations against Serbia.

After these actions, some time is pretty quiet around Outpost. In addition to the summer holidays, This probably is due to the moral blow that Outpost sustained during the Antifascist Action (AFA) disturbed Pentecostal Camp in Veenwouden and because Marcel Rüter during the summer months had his hands full with a relationship crisis.

McDonalds

The activities that took place before the summer did little to generate media attention, with the exception of the disturbed Pentecostal Camp and the annual William of Orange- commemoration of Outpost. Also announced by Rüter discussion with the media did not get off the ground. This changed in October when Outpost on World action was run against burger giant McDonald's.

In various cities shared Outpost activists and leaflets (Dutch) uit calls, in protest against American cultural imperialism. Under the heading “Stop De Massacultuur. Wereldvoedseldag = Anti- McDonald’s- day” Outpost turned into a pamphlet against the waste of natural resources, natural destruction, food poisoning and pollution by McDonald's.

But in a single place the pamphlet is distinguished from a pamphlet left: “Did you know that McDonald's, the world delimits with horrible meter high poles bearing its mark as proof of occupation (…)“, which refers to the outpost by her detested globalization and Americanization. The actions themselves were slightly more visible differences. As reported Outpost in Antwerp, for example sausage rolls out.
Outpost action was a resounding success: “At various places in the Netherlands was without any problem or disturbance successfully campaigned. Where we have even received support from leftist activists in Zwolle. Leaflets were distributed and unsprayed apples were distributed to passers. Under the presence of onlooking police became clear that a large number of people today have McDonald's on your left and has satisfied her appetite elsewhere. Therefore now: World Food Day = Anti-McDonald's Day = Voorpost Day of Action and Support for French farmers !!.

De anti-McDonald’s- actions were found to be so funny by various media under the term “the extreme right and left agree” various newspapers, weeklies and VPRO- television attention to the Outpost action spent. Pretty Netherlands, Nieuwe Revu and program Waskracht tried to define what the similarities and differences between Outpost and the left-wing anti-McDonald's activists. In Waskracht! Rüter could even do a disguised call for cooperation between the left and right. In late November, the Dutch Student tries again to cause confusion by under its new name, LANS (#4), to come out. They carry out small-scale action against the top of the World Trade Organisation, taking place at that moment in Seattle (United States). Under the motto “Students in opposition to capitalism and globalization” try to search anonymously join leftist activist groups against the WTO. However, this failed and LANS spreads on their own posters in some university towns. In these pamphlets is the right-wing extremist phraseology virtually absent. However, the final sentence leaves little to the imagination: “We call to fight against globalization, out of respect for all differences and clear consciousness of our individuality!”

What to do?

The strategy of the New Right is designed to have its own place in the political spectrum where it is seen as a political discussion partner. This place is on the right side of the political spectrum and is characterized in particular by its racist worldview. The world needs according to the New Right (Outpost) are analyzed and sorted on the basis of ethnic characteristics: nations must be able to develop in freedom in their own place in the world. The Netherlands insists outpost on the identity of the Dutch nation threatened by immigration (“No Mosque in this district!”), multi-culture (“Stop Ritual Slaughter!”) in Globalisering (“Stop de Massacultuur!”).
Until now it seems that hardly successful strategy. Outpost is nowhere accepted, is generally labeled as fascist and seems to barely grow. It still is a small group that can hardly organize any activities and meetings.

Outpost pamphlet

Generally there from the media and from left hook too little or no attention to the actions of the Outpost Angle. But now more and more openly is imputed against the radical left and the panic seems to slightly strike. Especially since this is picked up by the media as good news in these postmodern times. Leiden action group “The Fable of the Illegal” put her secretarial function of the campaign “Mai Not Given!” down when the international anti-MAI campaign insufficiently distanced in her eyes of the New Right. After the anti-McDonald's actions Voorpost seemed different groups also have difficulty explaining what is now the difference between Outpost and the radical Left in connection with this theme.

Globalization by Outpost undoubtedly seen as a major problem and a serious threat to the adored “Dutch identity”. The choice of its action goals seems more motivated by an opportunistic short-term rather than genuine anger over the advancing globalization: the creation of media attention and the confusion in the radical left his outpost at the most important considerations to battle against McDonald's and the WTO.
Since the media only focus outpost when they establish links with leftist action goals this choice hand. That the effort left occasionally with this retreading has an additional objective is clear from the emails that are sent out from the Outpost Curve to leftist groups in its actions (#5). Also calls Marcel Rüter cooperation and forming coalitions should be seen in this context: “We had hoped that people after the initial shock that we as a new right also against globalization, would sharpen their positions and would continue their campaign. That could lead to dialogue.”

For Post is not interested in collaboration or discussion with radical leftist groups, she wants to break its isolation and attempts to do this is by being reasonable interlocutor in the media.

In order to prevent this, therefore, produces some success in what way the old insulation strategy seems to be the best option. This means that no discussion should be entered there, but also that leftist groups have set their agenda at any point by Outpost. This is to prevent two things: media attention to the ideas of Outpost and possible confusion within the radical left.
In Utrecht there was recently a good example for data. On an evening discussion about the New Right in a left action center Alfred Vierling was in the audience. When the organizers wanted to remove him, Quad demanded that the audience would say in. Unfortunately for Quad one was determined and he was thrown out.
