The Institute for Human Rights rules on a complaint by a German man living in the Netherlands. He wanted to take out a mortgage with a bank (with its head office in Utrecht has), but came across 8 maart 2016 on the provision that applicants with a non-Dutch nationality are only eligible for a mortgage if they can demonstrate that they have been working in the Netherlands for at least three full years. The Board determines that there is direct discrimination here and that the bank makes a prohibited distinction based on nationality.
