The Senate votes on revoking the Dutch citizenship of terrorism suspects. This would allow the Minister of Justice to take stricter action against terrorism suspects and jihadists returning from, for example, Syria or Iraq.. The Senate approves the Cabinet's plan to be able to take Dutch citizenship away from people who endanger national security. This is only possible for people with dual nationality, because withdrawal must not lead to statelessness. From now on, the Minister can do this without the person in question having received a criminal conviction. A narrow majority of VVD, PVV, CDA, SGP en 50+ supports the plan. Opponents say the bill violates the rule of law. According to a Commissioner of the Council of Europe, the possibility of revoking the passport smacks of discrimination against Moroccan or Turkish jihadists.
