The Institute for Human Rights rules on a complaint by a Moroccan-Dutch man who applied for an internship with a broker in Utrecht. Medio May 2016 he emailed his application and almost immediately received a reply that was actually intended for internal purposes. It contains the sentence “his name is not easy“. The man feels discriminated against and complains to the company. The broker does not have an internship for him and declares that they previously had an intern with the same first name and that the sentence applied to that. They do offer him a short sniffing internship. The Institute finds that there is no discrimination.
