The Council of State is considering a proposal from the PVV. The party wants to prohibit municipalities from cooperating in Sinterklaas parades with Pieten who do not (all of them) be black. The Council of State states that the government has nothing to do with the appearance of Zwarte Piet. At such events, the government should consider order and security and not tradition itself. In the proposal for the “Pietenwet” of the PVV the latter will happen. “That does not fit in a democratic constitutional state” says the Council of State. “Deviant” celebrations fall under the freedom of expression.
